Halloween: The Scarecrow by tokyo-dude Halloween: The Scarecrow by tokyo-dude
For Halloween this year I dressed as The Scarecrow from Batman. There are many versions of the character from various media, but I based my costume mainly on the Animated Series version. The costume was handmade (excluding the hat and gloves which were purchased and slightly modified). I generally spend weeks every year making an elaborate Halloween costume and have been doing so since the 1990s, but this is the first time I will be putting pictures online. On Sunday October 30th I participated in the Kawasaki Halloween festival, Japan's largest Halloween event, along with 3500 others. The concept for the mask comes from fellow deviant boredman, and credit for its design goes to him. I simply looked at his awesome Scarecrow cosplay and replicated the mask that I saw. Enjoy!

Hi! I'm doing a Scarecrow costume for Halloween this year and wanted to make my mask like this because it just looks totally awesome! Is there a chance you could share how you made the mask fit around your face like that and also the material you used? It looks like straight up burlap but I've heard that gets itchy. I'm kind of new to really intricate costumes so any help is appreciated. Once again, great job on this costume!

Well that was fast. Congratulation, it's like there's two of me now XD
The lenses is a nice touch too. Just one thing i'd like to rectify : this isn't the Animated Series design, it's the actual design from the original Batman comics. And you can be proud of that !
The Animated Series version would rather look like this guy [link]

Hey, thanks! Well, the Animated Series Scarecrow is one of my favorite versions of the character, and I liked the color scheme from that version best, so I incorporated it into my costume. I wanted the blood to stand out on the straw and shirt, though, so I figured I couldn't make the top bright red like the animated Scarecrow. I dyed it a wine color instead and liked the results. The yellow eyes/teeth are also inspired by the animated version. If you ever get to Japan for any cosplay events let me know! I really just made this for Halloween but I wouldn't mind wearing it again (^_^).

awesome costume. contacts?
tokyo-dude Featured By Owner Nov 7, 2011
The contacts are "angelic yellow" although it's a little hard to see them in this pic.

theLUsir Featured By Owner Nov 7, 2011  Hobbyist General Artist
yeah, can def tell they aren't real, but it's cool to know they aren't digital. very ironic that the angelic yellow eyes belong to a devilish impostor
tokyo-dude Featured By Owner Nov 7, 2011
Too true. I thought the term "angelic" was a little odd for these particular contacts because they don't look anything but demonic to me...

exactly. though that would be an experiment someone should put to the test. be angelic while wearing angelic lenses...hmm
